Located on the Giza Plateau near Cairo, the Giza pyramid complex consists of three main pyramids: the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the smaller Pyramid of Menkaure. These structures date back to the Fourth Dynasty of ancient Egypt, around 2600 to 2500 BC. The complex also includes the Great Sphinx, several temples, cemeteries, and the remains of a workers' village.
The pyramids were constructed as royal tombs and demonstrate advanced engineering techniques of the Old Kingdom period. The Great Pyramid, the largest of the three, originally stood at 146.6 meters tall. The site lies at the edge of the Western Desert, approximately 9 kilometers west of the Nile River and 13 kilometers southwest of central Cairo.
